The Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) granted a favorable assessment to Celifrut’s facilities in the department of Quindío, marking a milestone for the Colombian citrus sector in its access to the Chinese market.

The authorization followed an exhaustive technical and sanitary verification process in which ICA professionals inspected every stage of our operational process, from fruit reception to dispatch, confirming that we fully comply with the phytosanitary requirements established under the Colombia–China bilateral protocol for the export of fresh fruit.

The access of Colombian Tahiti limes to the Chinese market is the result of more than a decade of joint efforts among sanitary authorities, the Colombian government, and the private sector. Today, that effort is beginning to materialize through the authorization of packing facilities, and this is a positive signal for the entire value chain: growers, exporters, and industry associations.

China represents one of the greatest diversification opportunities the Colombian citrus industry has had in years. With a growing demand for fresh tropical fruit and a market of more than 1.4 billion consumers, it opens a route that can ease pressure on traditional markets, especially during periods of oversupply, while generating sustained value for growers in the field.

For Colombia’s Coffee Region in particular, this authorization confirms that the region has the technical, sanitary, and productive conditions required to compete in the world’s most demanding markets.

This achievement is not only Celifrut’s. It is the result of the work of our team, the growers who place their trust in us, and the ongoing support of the ICA team, whose technical rigor and commitment made this process possible.
