Celifrut reduces 89 tons of CO₂ per year with solar energy in the Colombian agribusiness sector

A firm step toward cleaner and more efficient operations with solar energy in the Colombian agribusiness sector and citrus exportation.

At Celifrut, strategic decisions are committed to the planet and the future of Colombian agriculture. That is why today we proudly advance with the installation of a photovoltaic solar panel system that will mark a before and after in our operations, reaffirming our leadership in the export of Colombian citrus.

The project takes advantage of the constant solar radiation in our region to generate clean energy. 300 state of the art solar panels were installed, capable of reaching a power output of over 180 kilowatts peak (kWp), distributed across two plants: one of 100 kWp and another of 80 kWp.

These panels, certified under the international TR1 standard and connected to intelligent inverters, will convert solar energy into electricity available for our operations. It is a grid connected system, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with national regulations.

Thanks to this investment, Celifrut will cover approximately 77% of the energy consumption of the main packing plant. The entire system produces more than 230,000 kilowatt hours per year, avoiding the emission of approximately 89 tons of CO₂ annually. This is equivalent to planting more than 4,000 trees each year, a tangible contribution to environmental balance and the global climate commitment.

With the implementation of these solar panels, Celifrut makes concrete progress toward two of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 7, “Affordable and Clean Energy,” ensuring that a large part of our energy comes from clean and reliable sources; and SDG 13, “Climate Action,” by significantly reducing CO₂ emissions and promoting responsible practices in the face of climate change. Each kilowatt generated not only drives our operations but also reflects our commitment to a more sustainable future for Colombia and the planet.
